In the photo album, we have an Ermin Coats, son of Henry Coats and Maybelle Walker but the pedigree chart lists a Herman Coats also the son of Henry and Maybelle. Are they the same, should Henry be changed to Ermin in the chart or were they brothers? Jan, can you straighten us out on this? Thanks,Linda Mystery solved.
Looking for a picture of Effie Mae Smith, b. Sept. 23, 1892, married to Gus Walker. If anyone has a picture of Effie Mae, at any age, her descendants would love to have a copy. No known picture of Effie is known to exist at this time. We’re hoping that descendants of her siblings might have a picture of her.… (more...)

I tried a two week trial membership at ancestry.com and found loads of census records on my family lines. The SSDI was also a pretty good source of information. The One World Tree doesn’t yeild much of anything but I understand it is still more of a beta than anything else. Perhaps one day it will be worth the purchase… (more...)

Remember when grandparents and great-grandparents stated that they only had an 8th grade education? This is the eighth-grade final exam from 1895 in Salina, Kansas, USA. It was taken from the original document on file at the Smokey Valley Genealogical Society and Library in Salina, KS, and reprinted by the Salina Journal. 8th Grade Final Exam: Salina, KS -1895 Grammar… (more...)
